Neil Kavanagh

test imageNeil studied flute, singing and bass guitar at music college from 1968 – 1972. In 1974 he joined the The Enid, and whilst with the band worked for more than a year in conjunction with Vitavox, to produce possibly the first ever compact touring sound system capable of handling the width, depth and power required to accurately deliver the sound necessary for large concerts. From 1975 – 1978 he was a session musician working as a bass player and/or singer in studios and touring for many different artists.

In 1978 Neil decided to leave the music business altogether and worked for the largest contract speaker manufacturer in Europe. Accounts included Bose, Kef, Acoustic Research, Wharfedale, Linn, Celestion and many more. He was involved in the cabinet design and responsible for the manufacture, test and final quality of highly technical contract and domestic audio products. During 1984, Neil decided to build his own commercial eight track recording studio and has since been involved in the design and construction of more than 20 high quality studios to clients around the world.

1989 saw the birth of Old Barn Recording Ltd – Neil’s top quality 24 track recording studio in Kent. Here he has successfully worked as the sound engineer and music producer and the business is still going strong. In 1991 he expanded the company to include teaching seminars, mobile recording and a small record label.

Currently Neil lectures in sound engineering and music production, teaches music arrangement at degree level and works as a contract sound engineer for theatre and touring companies. He is also writing, recording and producing an album of original songs for a female vocalist at Old Barn Studios.

The birth of Old Barn Audio Ltd was a natural step to further expand into live audio and continue his passion for sound especially in the live arena.
