Occasionally Old Barn Audio are asked to work for a charitable event and these are normally fun jobs to do, as it is something quite different. The Scumrun is organised by Jess and Ed and is a yearly charity event. Each year they pick a different children’s charity and this year the chosen charity was for “Together For Short Lives“. Normally raising around £100,000 for the chosen charity, this makes it an extremely fun event for all but for a really worthwhile cause.
The Scumrun is a “Gumball Rally” style event where they invite cars to take part in a 5 day rally, kicking off in the UK and travelling across Europe for 5 days, finishing once again in the UK. Unlike the Gumball Rally, which is for the rich and famous with expensive cars, these cars are “decorated” but none are worth over £500.
With the Scumrun, they take you a magical mystery tour of routes across Europe and this year one of the venues they visited was the Barcelona Grand Prix!
It was actually the charity who approached Old Barn Audio, as they needed a great sound system that could be set up and taken down again within 24 hours, for the launch event on the morning of 11 May 2017.
So off went the guys from Old Barn Audio on Wednesday afternoon up to Southborough, where the rally was leaving from. They took along with them:
- 4 x Martin Audio WS218X sub bass systems
- 2 x Martin Audio W8VDQ
- 3 x LE1200 Monitors
- 1 x LE1500 Monitor
They set up on Wednesday evening and then were back again by 6.30am the next morning for a soundcheck with the band. This was all completed by 7.45. The band played a couple of 1/2 hour sets, with Timmy Mallett performing in between. It was all over by 11, once the cars had left, but what a great morning! So much fun to see all the different cars and the way they had been modified. It was a shame that Thomas The Tank Engine didn’t quite make it though…

We have decided that we will be entering the Scumrun in 2018! Watch this space…
