Martin Audio MLA Compact at Eastbourne SteamPunk Festival

The inaugural SteamPunk Festival took place in early September on Eastbourne Seafront and was supported by Martin Audio MLA Compact from Old Barn Audio. The beautiful summer days were supported by stunning views out to sea – a fantastic spectacle possibly not seen before.

Being the most local MLA Compact distributor to Eastbourne and the South East, Old Barn Audio were asked to supply the audio system for the festival to ensure the sound was kept contained not only due to the close proximity of the seafront hotels but also to offer seamless audio across the amphitheatre style venue location.

Old Barn Audio supplied 16 x Martin Audio MLA Compact in two 8-deep hangs which offered up to 100db audio across the 80m site.  The sub-bass was supplied by an array of Martin Audio WS218X under the stage offering frequencies down to 32Hz.

The committee of the SteamPunk festival were thrilled at the audio quality and clinical dispersion MLA Compact was able to offer.  The thousands of people attending the event revelled in the atmosphere and music throughout two enjoyable days.

MLA Compact dealt with all genres of music from hard-rock to jazz to funk-fusion with ease. Vince Webb, owner of Chapel who were the main sponsors of the event, added that ‘the choice of Old Barn Audio and MLA Compact was perfect for this festival. Eastbourne has never seen or heard anything like this before and we look forward to the festival in 2016 and, once again, teaming up with Old Barn Audio and Martin Audio’s flagship MLA Compact’.

Phil Clark of Old Barn Audio, who ran monitors for the event, explained to the organisers how MLA software can offer rear-rejection from the arrays which avoids spillage behind the stage. During a demonstration, the front arrays were switched off and no one on stage knew they were! You’ve just got to love MLA!
