Old Barn Audio have been spending a bit of time hanging out with celebrities in Belgravia recently! They returned to the mighty Salmontini, an exclusive and award winning sushi and sashimi restaurant in Pont Street, right in the heart of Belgravia.
When this gourmet fish restaurant opened in 2014 they brought in the guys from OBA, through a referral. The restaurateurs originally requested a background music system which was installed and completely satisfactory for their needs at the time.
As Salmontini grew, the MD Jason Bassili realised that he needed a larger system and spoke to OBA about a live music system being installed. They were not only spending a large amount of money hiring in systems for their live and DJ nights but all the associated cabling was spoiling the aesthetic and making the deluxe restaurant look messy.
Phil and Neil chose to install the Martin Audio CDD Series, a range of speakers having Coaxial Differential Dispersion technology that delivers more consistent audience coverage than systems with fixed dispersion X° x Y° horns. The increased coverage area can reduce the speaker count in larger installations, which was ideal in Salmontini, along with the general aesthetic of these distinctive curved enclosures.
Surveying the six-zone area, Neil designed a layout with four Martin Audio CDD10 in each of the Orangery and lounge bar locations — flown from the walls and ceiling — with the full range sound in each area underpinned by a discreet floor-mounted Martin Audio CSX212 sub woofer.
This exclusive venue is open from midday until 3am. Phil knew instinctively that one of the advantages of Martin Audio’s latest install systems is that it will run at low level as a dedicated background music system and then effortlessly ramp up the volume after dark.
With touch screen controls enabling local source select and volume control, there are multiple iPod, CD and DJ inputs — with a separate input downstairs for anyone hiring the Salmontini private dining room.
Jason Bassili is certainly impressed. “I was blown away when I first heard the power of the Martin Audio sound system,” he enthused. “And the esoteric look of the system is perfectly suited to a stylish venue such as Salmontini.”
