Martin Audio’s Newest Addition to Wavefront Precision – The WPS
The Martin Audio Wavefront Precision WPS is the latest addition to the Martin Audio series. This newest product is an eight inch line array with a peak SPL of 133dB. It is ideal for applications that require a high output array with reduced weight.
Wavefront Precision originally evolved from the signature MLA series. This range offers external amplification and scalable resolution. The systems are said to deliver improved coverage, consistency and control compared with standard line arrays. They are also flexible, upgradeable and financially accessible.
Dom Harter, managing director of Martin Audio, explains: “Simply put, the more enclosures with dedicated amplifier channels, the higher the resolution and scale of coverage and control is achievable.
“This means that even at the lowest level of resolution, the results are still fundamentally better than a traditional line array, at no extra cost, and the top end of resolution users can enjoy many of the benefits that MLA systems provide. Presently, other manufacturers are forcing their customers to buy very expensive and fixed amounts of amps to optimise arrays, but with Wavefront Precision the decision on the level of coverage control, and therefore the number of high-powered efficient iKON amps required, is the customer’s.”
“Wavefront Precision has been the company’s fastest ever selling line array series,” Harter goes on to say “and a significant contributing factor in Martin Audio’s rapid success over the last three years. The introduction of WPS extends the line to make it an all-powerful optimised line array family. As one of the founders of the pro audio industry, it remains critical that we continue to push forward with our aggressive new product strategy.”
Martin Audio’s WPS is a passive 3-way system which integrates a high density of drive units in a very compact enclosure. It features 2 x 8” (200mm) LF drivers, 4 x 4” (100mm) midrange drivers and 4 x 1” (25mm) exit HF compression drivers loaded by a moulded HF horn. Occupying the full width of the enclosure. And defining the 100° horizontal constant directivity coverage pattern of both the HF and mid-range sections. The 4” mid-range drivers are compression-loaded to raise efficiency. They enter the horn walls via annular slots close to the HF throat to sum effectively with the HF wavefront. In the HF section, four 1” exit compression drivers deliver pristine high frequency sound. This is without the harshness and distortion associated with larger format devices.
Following the introductions of WPL (12” LF), WPC (10” LF) and WPM (6.5” LF), the Wavefront Precision WPS (8” LF) is the fourth in the series, a line array with a peak SPL of 133dB and ideal for applications that require a high output array with reduced weight and footprint.
For extended low frequency performance, the WPS has been designed to be partnered with the SXC118 cardioid subwoofer or its flyable variant, the SXCF118.
WPS is being featured as part of Martin Audio’s presentation at InfoComm 2019, taking place at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Florida, from June 12-14. It will begin shipping worldwide from September 2019.
